Calculate billable volumetric weight for international air freight and DHL Express global shipments.
Because international air cargo capacity is limited by cargo hold volume rather than aircraft weight limits, DHL Express relies heavily on volumetric (dimensional) weight calculations for cross-border shipments.
For international shipments measured in centimeters and kilograms, DHL applies the global standard air cargo divisor of 5000:
(Length × Width × Height in cm) ÷ 5000 = Volumetric Weight (kg)
When utilizing imperial measurements (inches and pounds) for express shipments, DHL applies the standard 139 divisor, billing whichever is greater between the scale weight and volumetric weight.
